Due to Vader suffering a serious arm injury, he and Steve Williams were forced to vacate the AJPW World Tag Team Title in April, 2000. To determine new champions, a one night tournament took place at Tokyo Nippon Budokan on 6/9/00, the "SUPER POWER SERIES 2000" tour climax. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue would win the tournament, beginning their record-breaking sixth reign as champions. However, the famous Pro Wrestling NOAH split, a cause that Taue followed, forced he and Kawada to vacate the belts later that month, the two going their separate ways.
