From the day he debuted in a tremendous match against Kenta Kobashi on 9/1/92, Jun Akiyama was one of the biggest phenoms pro wrestling has ever seen. Showing maturity far beyond his experience, fans were amazed by Akiyama and touted him a future superstar. Throughout the "NEW YEAR GIANT SERIES 1993" tour, Akiyama had a seven match semi-trial series, facing a range of All Japan competitors. He lost most of the matches, but all of his losses were to established stars, and he picked up two victories.
