Established in 2003, the Jr. Champion Carnival gave the junior heavyweights of All Japan their own singles tournament, and was patterned after the heavyweight Champion Carnival. Assuming the reigning AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Champion doesn't also win the tournament, the eventual winner moves into top contention for a shot at the title.
